My Views on War

Anti-War

Have you known someone who has joined the army? Have you known anyone that has died at the hands of another country? This is why we need to put an end to war. Overall, war is a bad idea. People say it solves problems, when all it does is cause more problems. Yeah, there are things that war does accomplish, but that’s very few. War is bad for many and good for few.

I’m totally against war for many reasons. One of those reasons being that war throws away the gift of human life. Thousands to millions of people die in a war. I think this is wrong. No one should have to die over something that can be resolved by talking. Agatha Christie shows her concern by saying that “One is left with the horrible feeling now that war settles nothing; that to win a war is as disastrous as to lose one.”

Another problem with war is that it wastes money that our country doesn’t have. As Abraham Flexner says “Probably no nation is rich enough to pay for both war AND civilization. We must make our choice; we cannot have both.” Why leave this choice up to the government when we can do all we can to stop war in its tracks. Albert Einstein states that “Nothing will end war unless the people themselves refuse to go to war.” So why not? Refuse to go to war. Stand up for yourself and the ones you love

Is Google making you smarter or stupid?

The newer generations are starting to rely more and more on electronics and the internet as a valid source of information. Although all of the information on the internet may not be correct or true, we have people and other ways to validate this information. For example, anyone can go on Wikipedia and change information, but there are people hired to make sure that the correct information is on display. If you do not trust the information on the internet, you could also simply look it up in a book. I was asked to respond to the question ” is Google (technology) making this generation smarter or stupid?”. In my honest opinion, i believe that technology such as the world wide web and Google are definitely making the newer generations smarter. I think this is true because if we don’t know the answer to a question, we can simply pull out our phones, iPods, or tablets and look it up on Google or ask Siri and get the answer in the blink of an eye. That means that we would automatically know new information.  I believe it also makes us smarter because we are required to read more. Even if it is on a phone screen, we are introduced to the endless pages of information and some of us would be provoked to search and scavenge through these pages full of information to find the information we need. So my final opinion on this topic is that technology such as Google, Siri, and smart phones will and currently are making generations smarter… lazier, seeking the easy way out, but smarter.
